What is a reserve price?

A minimum dollar amount that the owner of a coin that is up for auction will accept as the winning bid in the auction. The reserve price prevents the auction from being won at a price that is lower than the item's owner will accept. Although reserves have been popular in the past, most sellers today will just start their coins auction at the minimum amount they will accept or use the buy it now feature.

What is Time Extending Bidding and why does Land of Coins use it?

The auctions on Land of Coins.com are similar to ebay except for the way the auctions end. We have time extension auctions to make it like a live auction. In live auctions, the auctioneer takes bids until no one bids over several minutes. This is when the auctioneer says going once going twice old. We have a 5 minute extension on our auctions. If you place a bid within the last 5 minutes of the auction scheduled ending time, the time will be extended for 5 minutes from that last bid time. If you are concerned that time extension could make auctions last forever you need not worry. Just as with live auctions this is not the case. The time extension makes the auction process fair for both buyer and seller and it makes for an understanding that there is no reason to wait till the end of the auction to snipe quickly at a auction. What results is that most buyers bid on whatever they are interested in well before the end of the auction, but at the latest, in the final few minutes. Usually if you bid a fair price in advance by using a the maximum bid willing to pay feature, most times you will win the auction. A maximum bid feature is the maximum price you are willing to pay, and our auction software will start to bid on your behalf. For example, if a bidder is at $25 on a coin and you place a maximum bid of $100, you will have the high bid at $27 if his maximum is $25. If another bidder comes in at $60, our software will automatically place your higher bid at $63 which is the next bid increment. If no one else bids, congratulations, you get the item at $63 even though you were willing to go to $100.
